About CricOptics

Every IPL and WPL auction, player and match in one place, with an honest estimate of what a player is worth.

Most cricket sites tell you what a player sold for, or what happened in a match. CricOptics puts the two side by side: the price, the performances behind it, and an estimate of what the next deal might be.

It is made for people who follow the auctions closely: fans asking whether a signing was good value, writers looking for the numbers behind a story, and anyone curious how the clubs spend. Everything is built from public data, and where the data is thin the site says so.

What you can do here

Where the numbers come from

Open and public sources only.

How current is it?

What updates by itself, what is entered by hand, and what is not here.

Match records
Refreshed automatically every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. Each T20 page shows the date its data runs to. New matches usually arrive a few days after they are played.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Only partly covered: seasons 2015/16 and 2017/18 to 2024/25, about 58% of its matches, nothing after December 2024. Players who have only played the later seasons are not in the data.
Women’s domestic T20
Indian domestic women’s T20 is not covered; those players show only the leagues and internationals they played.
Auction results and prices
Entered by hand from official announcements and the broadcast. The live auction page is updated by the site’s owner as an auction happens.
Retentions, squads and staff
Taken from the leagues’ pages and public squad lists at a point in time and checked by hand. They are not refreshed automatically, so a recent signing or trade can take a while to appear.
Price estimates
Worked out from the data above, so they only know what the data knows.

Good to know

  • Match archives record names as initials ("V Kohli") and auction tables use full names ("Virat Kohli"). Search understands both, but a list can look inconsistent.
  • Some players have no auction price: they were retained or signed outside an auction. They still have a full record. Older sales that could not be tied to one player are left out rather than guessed.
  • Profile details such as date of birth, country and role are left blank where no source has them, never guessed.
  • Auctions from 2008 to 2013 were held in US dollars, so those prices are not directly comparable with later ones. Nothing is adjusted for inflation.
  • The WPL has far less history than the IPL (four seasons of auctions), so its estimates are thinner and say so.

Unofficial

CricOptics is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the BCCI, the IPL, the WPL, or any franchise.

Team and player names are used to say who played for whom and what they were paid. No team crests or competition logos are used, and franchises are shown with our own colour blocks and monograms. Photos on articles are credited to their photographers.

Price estimates and forecasts are model estimates from historical public data. They are not advice, and they are not a valuation.
